Family Chiropractic in Edmonton

Keeping Life in Motion.

Gentle care for every stage of life, from infants to seniors.

Every member of a family is different. At Active Health Collective, our approach to chiropractic care starts by listening, understanding your health history and discussing whether an assessment or treatment is appropriate for you. Dr. Kristen Sheppard, DC, welcomes families seeking thoughtful, individualized chiropractic care in Edmonton, including infants, children, expectant mothers, adults and seniors.

Chiropractic Care for the Whole Family

From newborns and young children to busy parents, expectant mothers and seniors, people come to a chiropractor with different questions and expectations. A family-focused appointment is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. The assessment, conversation and any care recommendations are shaped by the person’s age, health history, needs and preferences.

Dr. Sheppard takes time to understand each patient’s concerns and explain available options. For younger patients, that also means clear communication with a parent or guardian and an approach suited to the child’s individual circumstances.

Meet Dr. Kristen Sheppard, DC

Chiropractic Care with Rehabilitation in Mind

Dr. Kristen Sheppard has been practicing chiropractic since 2002. She works with patients of all ages, from infants to seniors, and especially enjoys working with families and expectant mothers.

Dr. Sheppard uses gentle, low-force techniques, including the Activator instrument, which delivers quick, gentle adjustments. This approach can be suitable for patients of all ages, including infants, children, expectant mothers, adults and seniors. For infants, she uses very light pressure from a fingertip or a low-force adjusting tool, about the same pressure you’d use to check whether a tomato is ripe.

Her goal is to help patients feel informed and comfortable with the assessment process and any proposed care. You are welcome to ask questions, discuss concerns and understand the reasoning behind recommendations.

Appointments for Different Ages and Stages

Infants, children and teens

A child’s appointment begins with listening to the parent or guardian and understanding the child’s health history and reason for visiting. Dr. Sheppard considers the child’s age and individual needs before discussing whether chiropractic care is appropriate. Infants are examined in their diaper at the first visit, and parents are present for all treatments.

Some parents simply want their child checked, and you don’t need a specific concern to ask about an assessment. If another type of healthcare is more suitable, that will be part of the conversation.

Expectant mothers

Dr. Sheppard enjoys working with expectant mothers and offers gentle adjustments tailored to moms-to-be. Care focuses on pelvic alignment and comfort as your body changes, and specialized pillows let you lie safely and comfortably as your belly grows.

Adults and seniors

Adults and seniors may seek an appointment to discuss musculoskeletal concerns, movement, activity or everyday discomfort. Dr. Sheppard’s assessment considers the person behind the symptoms, including lifestyle, history and goals, before care options are discussed. Her low-force techniques can be a good fit for patients who prefer a gentler approach.

What to Expect at a First Visit

Your first appointment takes about 30 minutes and is an opportunity to discuss your concerns and ask questions. The process includes a health-history review, an examination, a discussion of findings and recommendations for next steps. If treatment is appropriate, it can begin that same day. Treatment is not assumed to be necessary for every patient.

For children, the parent or guardian is involved in the discussion and consent process and is present for all treatments.
